Multi-device streaming: how concurrent connections work

Every subscription comes with a limit on the number of devices that can stream at the same time. The limit depends on the plan: trial is 1, 1-month is 2, 3-month is 2, 6-month is 3, 12-month is 4.

How it is counted

A "concurrent connection" is a stream that is currently open from your account. If you have a 3-device plan and you are watching on the living-room TV, the bedroom TV, and the iPad, that is three connections. If someone else in the house opens a fourth, they will get an error and the existing streams will not be interrupted.

What happens when you exceed the limit

The newest connection is rejected. The existing connections keep working. This is the standard behavior across the industry — it prevents one user from accidentally sharing their account with ten friends, and it makes sure the streams you are actively watching are not disrupted.

Where to see your active connections

Your dashboard shows a list of currently active devices — the device name, a masked IP, and the time it last connected. If a device is on the list that you do not recognize, you can disconnect it from the same page. This is a good habit to develop if you ever sign in from a hotel, an Airbnb, or a friend's house.

Best practices

  • Sign out of devices you are no longer using. The dashboard makes this one click.
  • If you have a 2-device plan and a household of four, schedule the heavy viewing times. The kids do not need the sports channel at the same time the parents are watching the news.
  • Do not share your credentials with people outside your household. The simultaneous-connection limit will eventually bite one of you.
