IPTV Smarters Full Configuration: Setup on Every Device
How to install and configure IPTV Smarters on Android TV, Fire TV, iOS, Apple TV, Windows, and Smart TVs — Xtream Codes login, M3U import, EPG setup, VOD, and parental controls.
IPTV Smarters is the most widely supported IPTV player in existence. It runs on Android TV, Fire TV, iOS, Apple TV, macOS, Windows, and even Smart TVs, which makes it the default choice when you want one player across every device you own. This guide walks through a complete configuration: installing the app, logging in with Xtream Codes, importing an M3U playlist, setting up the EPG, and using the VOD and series sections.
1. Install IPTV Smarters
IPTV Smarters is available in every major app store:
- Android TV / Google TV: Play Store → search "IPTV Smarters Pro".
- Fire TV / Firestick: Amazon App Store. If it is missing in your region, sideload the APK with Downloader (see our Fire TV setup guide).
- iOS / Apple TV: App Store → "IPTV Smarters Pro".
- Windows / macOS: Download the desktop installer from the official IPTV Smarters website.
- Smart TV (Samsung / LG): Check your TV's app store — Smarters is usually present, though versions can lag behind.
Install the Pro version when the store offers both: it is the current, maintained build.
2. Log in with Xtream Codes
On first launch, Smarters asks how you want to connect. Choose Xtream Codes — it is the fastest setup because the app pulls categories, streams, and EPG from a single login:
- Tap Login with Xtream Codes.
- Enter the server URL, username, and password from your dashboard.
- Tap Add User, then open the user to load the channel list.
The server URL is the full domain (e.g., https://xtream.nanoiptv.com) — Smarters prepends it with the API paths automatically.
3. Import an M3U playlist
Prefer a playlist? Use the M3U URL instead:
- On the login screen, choose Login with M3U URL.
- Paste your full M3U URL from the dashboard.
- Name the user and save.
Smarters also supports loading a playlist from a local file or from a URL you type. Not sure which format fits? Our M3U vs Xtream Codes comparison explains the trade-offs.
4. Set up the EPG
With Xtream Codes login, the EPG loads automatically in the background. For M3U imports you may need to add it manually:
- Go to the main menu → EPG.
- If the guide is empty, use the URL option and paste your XMLTV URL from the dashboard's EPG tab.
- Give it a few minutes on first load — large guides take time to download.
See our EPG and catch-up guide for the full picture, including now/next data.
5. Use Live TV, VOD, and Series
The main screen splits content into three sections:
- Live TV: grouped by category. Tap a category, then a channel. Use the star icon to build a favorites list — essential with 24,000+ channels.
- Movies (VOD): the on-demand catalog with posters, descriptions, and search. Our VOD and catch-up explainer covers how it works.
- Series: episodes grouped by season. Smarters remembers your playback position, so you can resume mid-episode.
Smarters also includes catch-up on channels that support it: look for the clock icon and browse the last seven days of programming.
6. Parents and child profiles
Smarters includes a solid parental control system:
- Settings → Parental Control.
- Set a PIN.
- Lock adult categories, block VOD by age rating, or restrict the entire app.
7. Multi-user and multi-playlist
Smarters lets you add several users (different logins or playlists) and switch between them from the main menu. This is useful if you manage subscriptions for family members — though remember each plan covers one simultaneous stream per user, so accounts should not play at the same time.
Optimization settings
- Player choice: Settings → Player. The built-in player is fine; on Fire TV, some users prefer the external VLC player for better format support. Test both and keep the one that feels smoother.
- Buffer: Settings → Buffer size. Raise it to 4–6 seconds if you see stutter. Our buffering guide has the full checklist.
- Auto-start: Settings → Auto Start. On Android TV, Smarters can launch straight into the app when the TV turns on.
- Background playback: The app plays audio when you return to the home screen — handy for news and music channels.
Troubleshooting
Login fails with Xtream Codes
Copy the username and password straight from the dashboard — they are case-sensitive. Check the server URL includes the full domain with no trailing slash.
Channels load but do not play
Try the external player in Settings. If that does not help, check your network: see the troubleshooting guide.
No EPG after M3U import
Add the XMLTV URL manually under the EPG menu, then force a refresh.
Frequently asked questions
Is IPTV Smarters free?
Yes. The app is free to download and use. Some versions show ads on the free tier; a one-time premium purchase inside the app removes them and unlocks extra features.
Does IPTV Smarters work on Apple TV?
Yes — it is one of the few full-featured IPTV players on tvOS. See our iOS and Apple TV setup guide.
How many devices can I use?
The app installs on as many devices as you like. Your IPTV plan allows one simultaneous stream; extra devices can be added at a reduced rate (25% of the plan price per additional device, up to five total).
