TiviMate Ultimate Setup Guide: Install, Configure, and Optimize

TiviMate is the closest thing IPTV has to a reference player. It is the app most power users install first on Android TV and Fire TV devices, and the one most often recommended when people ask what to use. This guide covers the full journey: installing the app, unlocking Premium, adding your subscription via Xtream Codes, configuring the EPG, and tuning playback settings for a smooth experience.

1. Install TiviMate

TiviMate is Android-only. It runs on Android TV, Google TV, and Fire TV devices — but not on iOS, Apple TV, or desktop operating systems. If you use those platforms, see our IPTV player comparison for alternatives.

Android TV and Google TV

Open the Play Store on your device, search for TiviMate, and install it. The free version works immediately and is enough to get started. Premium (a one-time purchase of a few dollars) unlocks the features that make TiviMate great: multiple playlists, recording, and backup/restore.

Fire TV and Firestick

On Fire TV, TiviMate is available from the Amazon App Store in most regions. If it is not listed in your region, sideload the APK with the Downloader app — the same method we cover in our Fire TV IPTV setup guide. You must also enable Apps from unknown sources in Fire TV settings before sideloading.

2. Unlock Premium (optional but recommended)

Premium unlocks the features most people buy TiviMate for. The unlock works through the TiviMate Companion app on an Android phone:

1. Install TiviMate Companion from the Play Store on your phone.
2. Open it, sign in with the same Google account you use on the TV, and purchase Premium.
3. On the TV, open TiviMate → Settings → About, and select Unlock Premium.
4. Sign in with the same Google account. Premium activates within a minute.

The purchase is tied to your Google account, so it also works on a second Android TV device you own.

3. Add your IPTV subscription

TiviMate supports two ways to add a provider: Xtream Codes login and M3U URL. Xtream Codes is preferred because the player gets structured categories, channel logos, and EPG data in one go.

Xtream Codes login

1. In TiviMate, open Settings → Playlists → Add playlist.
2. Choose Xtream Codes.
3. Enter the server URL, username, and password from your dashboard.
4. Name the playlist (e.g., "NANO IPTV") and save.

M3U URL login

1. Open Settings → Playlists → Add playlist.
2. Choose M3U Playlist.
3. Paste your full M3U URL — it is long (200+ characters), so copy it directly from the dashboard.

4. Configure the EPG

When you add a playlist via Xtream Codes, the EPG is usually attached automatically. For M3U playlists you may need to add it manually:

1. Open Settings → EPG → Add EPG source.
2. Paste the XMLTV URL from your dashboard's EPG tab.
3. Return to the channel list; the guide populates within a few minutes.

5. Optimize playback

Three settings make the biggest difference to daily viewing:

• Buffer size: Settings → Playback. The default 2 seconds is fine on stable connections. If you see buffering, raise it to 4–6 seconds. See why IPTV buffers and how to fix it.
• Automatic frame rate (AFR): Settings → Playback → AFR. European content runs at 25/50 fps, American at 30/60. AFR matches the display refresh rate to the content, eliminating judder on panning shots.
• Favorites first: Long-press any channel and add it to favorites. With 24,000+ channels, a favorites list is the single best quality-of-life improvement. TiviMate also lets you hide categories you never watch so they disappear from the EPG.

6. Recording and catch-up

Premium users can record live TV to a USB drive or network storage: Settings → Recording. TiviMate records what you schedule even while you watch something else. If your provider offers catch-up (time-shifted viewing), channels with catch-up show a small clock icon; press OK on the channel to see the last seven days. Our VOD and catch-up explainer has more.

7. Back up your setup

After you have configured everything, back it up: Settings → General → Backup. Save to a USB drive or cloud storage. Restoring takes under a minute — far less than re-entering playlists and settings by hand.

Troubleshooting

Playlist shows but channels do not load

Check your subscription is active in the dashboard. If it is, delete the playlist and add it again — the playlist URL may have been regenerated.

Channels play but the EPG is empty

Re-add the EPG source, then force a refresh: Settings → EPG → Force EPG update. Give it five minutes on the first load.

App crashes on a low-RAM device

Hide unused categories, close other apps, and keep one playlist active. On 1–2 GB devices, TiviMate runs fine when it is the only heavy app.

Is TiviMate free?

The app is free with ads and a limited feature set. Premium is a one-time purchase (a few dollars) that unlocks multiple playlists, recording, and backups.

Does TiviMate work on iOS or Apple TV?

Can I use TiviMate on multiple devices?

Yes — the app and Premium work on any Android TV device you own. Your IPTV plan covers one simultaneous stream, so only one device should be playing at a time. Additional devices can be added to your plan at a reduced rate (25% of the plan price per extra device, up to five total).
